Summer Term – Week 2 6.05.22

A week of celebration!

We hope you all had a lovely bank holiday weekend and all families who celebrated Eid managed to enjoy time with their families and loved ones. It was lovely to see so many children wearing their special Eid clothes, with other children also dressing up for the occasion.  We have loved hearing how children have enjoyed such a special time with family and friends!  On behalf of the staff and pupils, I would like to pass on my thanks for all the delicious treats we received.

This week we have had the opportunity to reflect on our learning from the spring term.  Froggy has visited to reward all our Geography superstars – well done to all our award winners. All year groups have shared their Geography learning in our assemblies, we have explored the 7 continents of the world, identified similarities and differences between places around the world and thought about the importance of protecting our planet from climate change.  A special mention to 4GO who spoke passionately about this.

Our after-school clubs have commenced this week, it’s great to see so many of our children taking up our offer.  Our new Knitting, Film, Basketball and Rounders clubs have proved extremely popular!  If your child is unable to attend please let the staff member know as waiting lists are in place for most clubs.  From next Tuesday, we will be re-commencing our chess club.  This is now open to all year groups but children must have a basic understanding of the game.  Places need to be booked through the MCAS App.

Over the next two weeks, all children within Y2 and 6 will be completing their SATs.  We are extremely proud of what the children have already achieved this year and know with their amazing learning attitudes and determination to do their best they will continue to experience success!  Please make sure all the children have a relaxing and enjoyable weekend.

We are looking forward to celebrating our children’s success with a street party themed celebration for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.  We will be encouraging all the children to wear red, white and blue.  Our kitchen staff have planned a street party themed menu which will be available to all children.  This needs to be booked through the app.  The teachers are planning a range of activities to ensure this is a memorable day for all!

Following our meeting on Wednesday, our Flowery Friends team are keen to organise a summer fayre, this is dependent upon parent support.  We have set a provisional date of Sunday 17th July.  We will be holding a planning meeting on Thursday 19th May straight after school.  Childcare and refreshments will be provided for those parents able to join us.  We look forward to meeting with you.

Finally, I would just like to ask all parents for help with the car parking situation, especially around our pedestrian entrance. This entrance should not be used by vehicles between 8 and 4pm.  Likewise, please can we ask all parents to remain off site at the end of the school day unless they have are registered disabled or collecting a child with a disability.

Wishing all our families a relaxing and enjoyable weekend.

Mrs Silk

Froggy Stars – Family News 05/05/22

Over the next few weeks we will continue to explore our own thoughts and feelings as part of our topic: Valuing difference

As part of this work, we will be looking at things that make us the same or different from each other, we will be showing kindness to each other and celebrating our differences.

Each week we will share some fun ideas for things you can do at home.  Children are welcome to share these in school or post on our Facebook page.

Activity 2 – We're all different, we're all special

Start with a conversation about the things that makes us the same as our friends and other people in our family and the things that make us different.

Make paper chain friends – see the picture.

  • Think of 3 things that make the paper friends look similar to each other
  • Think of 3 things that make them look different to each other
  • Think of 3 things that they have in common with each other but which are not to do with the way they look - e.g. all of them are interested in dinosaurs
  • Think of 3 things that make them different from each other, but which are not to do with the way they look.

Remind the children that we all have things that make us the same as each other and things that make us different - even from people in our family. It’s important to respect everyone!
