FROGGY STARS - STRIVE -TEAM - AMBITION - RESILIENCE = SUCCESS
16.01.26
Firstly, I would like to thank families that embraced our learning challenges over the Christmas break. The children have loved sharing their creations within our assemblies and have been able to retrieve their key learning from before the holidays. All families should have access to our retrieval quizzes (QR codes), we would ask families to revisit these regularly as this learning will be built upon throughout the school year.
During this term our focus is on History, children will be building n their learning from the autumn term, securing their understanding of the past and making comparisons with our lives today. We are currently focusing on the following areas:
Nursery – Who lives on our farm?
Reception – Which animals live under the sea?
Year 1 – Our community
Year 2 – Famous Victorians who changed history
Year 3 – Ancient Egypt
Year 4 – Anglo Saxons
Year 5 – Transatlantic Trave Slade
Year 6 – WWII
All children should have brought home their key questions for this half term and a list of important words which will help them access their learning. Within KS2 the children are completing a fortnightly quiz to help them remember these key words. Please help your child by practising these at home.
Within our assemblies, we have focused on our school value of ambition. Last week, we found out about Tenzig Norgay, who alongside Edmond Hilary was the first to reach the summit of Mount Everest. We are encouraging the children to reflect on our school values of striving, team work, ambition and resilience in achieving their own goals. We continue to encourage the children to share their achievements in or weekly celebration assemblies which take place on Thursdays in Key Stage 2 and Fridays in Key Stage 1.
On Wednesday we celebrated our day of kindness in remembrance of our friend Lila. It was lovely to see so many children adding a touch of purple to their uniform in remembrance of our special friend. Our Y3 and 4 children had the opportunity to work with a Bubble Artist. I know many families shared in the bubbles at home time too! Special thanks go to Ray from Paris Bubbles who is the artist kindly donating his time and expertise to support us. Paris Bubbles | Bubble Artists | Manchester, North West England. Lila’s family joined us for our celebrations and would like to thank the Flowery community for your acts of kindness. Our Y6 children are currently working alongside Lila’s family to create a memorial garden. We would like to take this opportunity to thank Lila’s family for their kind donation towards this.
Our after-school clubs recommence from Monday. All places need to be booked through the MCAS app. School do offer wrap around support should any family require support before 8 30 or after 3 15. Places are chargeable and can be booked through the app. This year we have extended our music provision to enable children to learn to play the steel pans. These lessons are currently only available to KS2 and cost £5 an hour. We hope to set up our own Steel Band to play at school events. Please speak to the office if you would like your child to attend.
Finally, I would like to remind parents not to park in the Surestart car park or leave cars unattended in the school grounds. Unfortunately, over the last few weeks we have seen an increase in cars blocking access to both our grounds and the Flowery centre. It is vital that emergency access is maintained at all times. Please remember that school has a designated drop off area in a morning to help ease the problems with traffic. There are lots of friendly faces around to welcome your child and escort them to class.
Wishing you a lovely and relaxing weekend
Kind regards
Mrs Silk

Parent Mental Health Day – 30th January 2026
Parent Mental Health Day (PMHD) takes place each year on 30th January. Created by Stem4, the day raises awareness of the vital link between parents’ and carers’ mental health and the wellbeing of the whole family. While PMHD is an important date in the calendar, the challenges parents and carers face are year-round. Supporting mental health is key to safeguarding children and promoting family resilience.
