FROGGY STARS - STRIVE -TEAM - AMBITION - RESILIENCE = SUCCESS
Spring Term Week 11 – 25.03.22
Following on from my newsletter last week, the Y4 children have been busy packing up supplies, these supplies have now been sent to the distribution centre and will be making their way to Poland to support those affected by the conflict in Ukraine. We are extremely grateful for all your contributions.
On Monday we welcomed visitors from other schools, within Enquire Learning Trust, we are extremely proud of the way our children welcomed our visitors, sharing their love of learning and what it means to be part of Flowery Field. During the visit, we focused on Geography, the children were keen to identify the places we have explored on a world map and were able to share their knowledge of place. Our EYFS children introduced us to an African world, sharing songs, dances, dressing up and trying new foods. Within Y1 and 2, the children have built on this knowledge, exploring the physical and human aspects of Geography, they were keen to share their knowledge of the places they have studied and able to discuss similarities and differences with the places they live. Within KS2, the children have been exploring different climate zones in places around the world, looking at how these places have changed over time and the impact of global warming.
Our assemblies continue to focus on Me and My Relationships. Children within KS1 and EYFS have had the chance to explore this area of their learning through an amazing performance of Tango's Big Adventure by @Hive North. Tango, a penguin from New York Central Zoo, explained how relationships and families can be different, but how we need to show respect. The children clearly loved the performance. Within school we have been exploring emotions, the children have been able to recognise a range of emotions and discuss ways in which they can help others. We are extremely grateful to the families who continue to support us in this part of our curriculum. This week’s activity focuses on working together as a family. Check out this week’s activity below:
Activity 4 - Collaboration challenge!
You’ll also need some old newspaper - or a magazine if you don't have any newspaper - and some sticky tape.
The challenge is to collaborate - that means work as a team - to make the tallest tower you can from six sheets of newspaper (more if you're using a magazine).
The challenge is to do this without any disagreements or falling out. So you have to negotiate - that means explaining how you think you should make your tower and finding polite ways of putting your ideas forward.
Afterwards, talk about what it was like. Did it feel easy or was it tricky? Were you frustrated at any time? How can you overcome frustration and work as a team?
Finally, I would like to thank the Flowery Friends team who have organised the Mother’s Day craft activities. The children have really enjoyed the sessions and are looking forward to sharing their creations with the special people in their life.
Wishing you all a relaxing and enjoyable weekend
Mrs Silk
