Reflections on week 37

Football fever is beginning to take hold of the school! How amazing it will be if the England Team manage to pull off a victory on Sunday – we will definitely allow another day of England shirts and painted faces on Monday if we win. As the match kicks off at 8pm, I expect some bleary eyes on Monday morning. School will open as usual at 8.40am and Rainbows will operate as normal, however, I will not use any late marks until 10.30am to allow our younger children to enjoy taking part with their families. If you are using this “extra-time” to recover, please bring your children in through the main entrance to ensure we have everyone signed in safely.

“Amazing” is also the word for the performances achieved by our year six classes as part of this year’s Children’s Shakespeare Festival and I couldn’t be more proud of what the three classes have produced.

Despite the interruptions to the lessons, it is good to see how well our year three children are doing at the swimming pool, with many now confidently swimming without arm bands or other aids.

I want to thank everyone in school for doing all they can to help cover for the staff being forced to self-isolate and also for the efforts colleagues are making who are ‘working from home’ to support the classes not on site.

Unfortunately, due to the shortage of staff caused by colleagues being required to self-isolate, I have postponed the year five residential visit until September. Despite their disappointment, the children took this news maturely and will be able to enjoy going with their new year six teachers as a great start to the school year.

Tameside Council have confirmed that children who qualify for free school meals will receive a single voucher to cover the summer holiday period. The office staff will forward these to the email addresses used last time. Please inform them of any changes to your email accounts to avoid problems with delivery.

The vaccine-van is on the main square in Droylsden this Saturday from 10am to 3pm. No appointments are needed to get your protective jab!

Finally, we have had a bit of fun this morning and put together this impromptu performance to set the scene for the weekend – please enjoy our efforts.
