Firstly, I would like to thank families that embraced our learning challenges over the half term break. The children have loved sharing their creations within our assemblies and have been able to retrieve their key learning from before the holidays. All families should have access to our retrieval quizzes (QR codes), we would ask families to revisit these regularly as this learning will be built upon throughout the school year.
During this term our focus is on Geography, children will be exploring their place in our world and their knowledge of key places around the world. We are currently focusing on the following areas:
Year 1 – Countries, Capitals and Seas of the Uk
Year 2 -Equator and Climate
Year 3 -Mountains, Volcanoes and Earthquakes
Year 4 -Rivers
Year 5 – A comparison of life in the Lake District and Amazon
Year 6 – Biomes and Vegetation Belts
All children should have brought home their key questions for this half term and a list of important words which will help them access their learning. Within KS2 the children are completing a fortnightly quiz to help them remember these key words. Please help your child by practising these at home.
On Friday, we will be supporting Children in Need by donating £1. There will be a used book sale before and after school too. During our Smart School Council lessons, children across school have had the chance to vote for what they want to do to mark this year’s event. I am pleased to announce that the majority of children voted to wear their PJs! This years theme is ‘challenge yourself to 25’, as a school we are trying to run 25km over the course of the day with each class contributing towards this goal.
Finally, all parents should have received an announcement regarding parents’ evening. This takes place on Wednesday 12th November. This will be a face-to-face event to enable you to speak with your child’s teacher and review your child’s progress. Appointments are booked through the MCAS app. Please contact your child’s teacher if you are unable to attend.
Wishing you a lovely weekend
Mrs Claire Silk
IMPORTANT INFORMATION - ONLINE SAFETY
Whatever the age of your child they will receive good online safety education in school, from early years through to college. But as parents and carers you need to know about and keep up with the risks and issues our children may face online. Importantly, we also need to know where to go for extra support. This week’s update looks at online influence. As children grow up, the digital environments around them are evolving as well, often in step with their changing interests and behaviours, so what are some of the factors that can influence children online? We ask that no cars are left unattended at any time and that one disabled space is left available for non-mobile children. Please can you also ensure you refrain from parking on Zig Zags.

Tameside SEND Update
Online SEND co-production workshop
Following our in-person SEND co-production workshop last month, Family Hubs Parent Carer Panel invites families of children with SEND to have their say in an online session. We will be discussing themes such as accessibility of information, how inclusive our spaces are for families, and groups and activities that can provide support, and you will work with us to co-design SEND spaces and services that truly work for families. The Family Hub Parent Carer Panel recognises that parents are the experts in their own experiences and your involvement is so valuable in helping us to support families across Tameside.
