Welcome back!
This week our children have embraced their new learning topics. Currently we are focusing on Geography. The children have loved exploring where they live and using their experience to locate key places on our world maps. We know many children are keen to extend their learning at home so have provided an overview below:
N/R Exploring the local area – Focus on Hyde
Y1 Exploring the United Kingdom - Focus on Coastlines
Y2 Exploring the continents of the World – Focus on UK and Kenya
Y3 Exploring the World - Volcanoes and Natural Disasters
Y4 Exploring the World - London and Copenhagen
Y5 Exploring the World - Lake District and Amazon Rainforest
Y6 Exploring the World - Liverpool and New Orleans
Our assemblies this week have focused on respecting our environment. The children have been keen to think about how they can make a difference within school and the local community. We have focused on the work of Greta Thurnberg and the importance of protecting our planet for future generations. As part of this work our school council are currently organising a Big Plastic Count. The children have started thinking about how they can reduce the plastic they use in school and home.
As you are aware, our School Council have been running a ‘Draw the teacher’ competition for our school website. We have had many wonderful entries already! To enable all children to participate, we have extended the deadline until next Friday 1st March. Our school council have the tough job of sorting the entries and selecting the winning design for our website.
As we approach World Book Day, we would like to thank those families that have taken part in our reading challenges over half term. It’s been great to hear children sharing their love of books with their friends and inspiring others. On Thursday 7th March, we will be inviting children to wear their favourite PJs and bring their favourite book to share with their friends. Cuddly friends are welcome too! As part of our celebrations Y3 and 4 pupils will also be visiting Hyde library.
Finally, can we remind all families to book their school dinners through the My Child at School App and ensure your contact details are up to date.
Wishing you all a lovely weekend.
Mrs Silk
Important Reminders
School starts at 8 45 and closes at 3 15. Please can we ask families to ensure children arrive on time as lateness disrupts learning and results in children missing valuable learning opportunities.
