This message is from the Executive Leader of Tameside Council...

"Everyone must act now to avoid further COVID restrictions

I send this email a day earlier than usual to alert you to changing rates of transmission of Covid in Tameside and the call I will be making to the community to help reverse this trend, I also ask for your support as Community Leaders to spread this message as far and wide as possible.

The borough’s positive COVID testing rate has increased to 84.3 per 100,000 of the population as of Monday, mirroring a wider increasing trend nationally and across Greater Manchester.  This is a very worrying rise and we must all step up our actions to tackle the spread of COVID and avoid the need for further restrictions.  Unless we can curb this increase, we may follow in Bolton’s footsteps where the hospitality sector – including pubs – has been closed down again.

Most of the cases in Tameside are being spread through household transmission so it is vital that we continue to ask our communities, pupils, parents and patients not to mix with anyone outside of their own household/support bubble.  We must also keep to the new national restriction not to gather in groups of more than six.  We must also increase vigilance in washing hands, wearing a face covering and keeping social distance.  We’re working closely with Greater Manchester Police to raise awareness of the actions everyone should take as well as supporting businesses to ensure appropriate safety measures are in place."
